Writing effective website copy is a skill that just about every online marketer needs to develop. There are many reasons to have this skill. In this blog post you will find 5 things that you really need to know about writing effective copy for the web.


1. Writing Good Website Copy Is Not Easy


Like they say, “If it was Easy, Everyone would be doing it”. Well, that definitely applies to web copy writing. Creating copy for your website is not like writing a letter, or writing a paper for your language arts class. It takes a different breed of writing skills to master, and some time to get it right as well.


Although it may not be easy, it certainly can be learned if you apply yourself. You probably won’t get it right the first time out. Most marketers don’t although that first sales letter you write may seem to you to be the most beautiful piece of writing ever created.


Don’t fall in love with it. You will probably need to tweak it, change it, add video or audio to that sales page to make it actually do what it is intended to do – make a sale.


2. You Still Have To Create Quality Content


Although the website visitors these days don’t really care if your format is exactly correct, or perhaps your grammar is a bit off, you still have to give them some good quality content. If you don’t, they will be gone as quickly as they can click that mouse button.


Not only do you need good content for your visitors, you need it for the search engines. Yeah, they still look for good content. More so than ever with all the algorithm changes lately that are putting a lot of bloggers out of business.


If you are familiar enough with your niche to create a quality product, then you should have enough knowledge to provide solid content for the visitors. Content that will help them believe that the answer to their problem is waiting for them inside your product.


3. Shorter is Better Sometimes


When it comes to writing copy for the web, short and to the point is important. You still need to provide the content, but keep it concise. Only write what is needed to convey your point.


Keep your sentences short. Write so that they make good sense, but don’t add in big words just to make you look smart – no one cares how smart you are.


Break up your paragraphs every two or three sentences. That makes it much easier for the human eye to follow. No one likes to try to read a wall of text. You can go four to five sentences if you need to but not much more than that.


4. Narrow Your Target Audience


The internet is a huge place these days. Trying to write copy that interests everyone is a lost cause. Think about it, you are reading this blog post because you are interested in learning more about writing effective web copy. You’re not here because you are researching model airplanes. So why would I add stuff that you don’t want to read?


If you try to write to too broad of an audience, most of them will leave and not come back. You could have just lost several of the targeted buyers you were after. They don’t know that you have the perfect solution to their problem because your copy didn’t speak directly to her.


5. Snappy Headlines Turn Heads


One of the hardest things to learn seems to be writing good headlines. The headline is probably the most important words on your website. If they don’t speak directly to your target audience and answer the challenges they have, most folks won’t even open the page.


A headline that grabs your attention is one that has your wants and desires in mind. It doesn’t matter if you put the most beautiful words up there with the brightest colors around them, if they don’t say what the reader wants to learn they are almost useless.


Once again, you need to keep the headline short. Say what you need to say in as few words as possible. Try to keep it all on one line if possible. That way the eye doesn’t have to track the sentence to the next line.


If you need to say more, put it in a sub-headline. That way you can finish the thought and have a much easier reading headline. Remember that today’s online visitor is used to short, fast paced information. They are used to tweets, social networking sites and the like that only allow very limited characters in the message.

In this blog post I am going to teach you about finding the best forums to join if you are conducting an online forum marketing campaign to boost your info marketing business. For a beginning marketer, it can be difficult to find a worthwhile forum.


To the uninformed or beginning info marketer, spending time on forums may seem like a waste of your valuable time. And it can be if you aren’t focused and haven’t prioritized your efforts; however, if you find the right forums and conduct yourself professionally while there, you can boost your info marketing business greatly by conducting a forum marketing campaign.


Finding the best forums for your marketing campaign can be daunting since there are so many in every niche. It seems every online marketer now has a forum connected to there website. While that is not completely true, there are a lot to weed through to find the best ones.


You want to focus your search on forums that pertain to certain aspects of your business. Similar to the way you use keywords to focus other people’s searches to your site. You could, for example, search for forums that discuss subtopics of your niche.


Here is a little secret that works to find all the forums you want. Go to google and type in:

Site:.com”powered by vbulletin” golf resorts    – Type in your niche keyword where I have the words “golf resorts”.


Asking employees or friends what online communities they participate in is another good way to seek out quality forums for your campaign. They can tell you how active the forum is and what the topics are covered.


What to look for in a good forum.

Some of the criteria for a good forum would contain the following:

–         forums that have at least 1000 members and 10,000 posts

–         forum must get at least 15-20 new posts every day

–         stay away from forums with a lot of spam posts

–         and of course don’t use forums run by your direct competitors…

By the way, I found that short list at About.com but it’s a good set of criteria to go by.

Choose about 4-5 forums to participate in. If you do more than that at first you will get overwhelmed. Perhaps your niche is golf, you could find forums about golf clubs, golf courses, golf training, golf resorts and golf technology maybe. That would give you 5 different subtopics of your niche to advertise in. And remember, these are highly targeted prospects in each of those sub-niches.

Ok, there are some great ways to find some forums for your niche. The one thing you need to maintain is be focused, don’t spend too much time in each one. Provide good answers and comments and be nice. Forum marketing is just one of the many areas of info marketing that you can use to boost your business. In this blog post I am going to teach you the basics of how to write catchy headlines, the kind that will make people take notice and open your emails.

One of the most important parts of an email campaign is getting folks to actually open and read your email. To do that you need an eye catching headline. One that not only grabs your attention, but almost forces you to open the email.


Why do you need a catchy headline and not just any old headline?

First off we need to talk about what is the purpose of the headline in your marketing emails. You probably get a lot of emails every day, some you open but most just get over looked and deleted without opening. Those are useless to you and to the marketer that sent them. So the main purpose of the headline is to get the reader to open the email.

The purpose of the headline or subject line is to entice the recipient into opening, reading and acting on the information in the email. So don’t ever underestimate the importance of those few, but powerful words.


So what makes a catchy headline?

You have to remember that you are sending your emails to a person, a real live human, not just a computer someplace. They aren’t sitting there just waiting for your email either, they are getting lots of emails from other marketers every day just like you do.

A catchy headline answers one very important question. What’s in it for me? That is the number one thing they are interested in. If it doesn’t tell them how they will benefit, they will probably not open, not read, and not act on your email. Keep them short and to the point.

The best headlines make the subscriber feel that if they don’t open and read the email they are missing out on something important. You want them to feel like they will be out of the loop if they don’t open your email.


Where can you find some samples to go by?

Look at your newspaper to start. Those headlines have to be short and succinct. They have to convey the message, get you to read and do it in a very limited amount of space and words. Study how they form those headlines, those folks have gotten very good at it.

Look at the emails you get each day. Notice those that you open, copy those into a text editor and keep them on your desktop for easy use. You can re-use them, writing them so they pertain to your email. No problem in that. If they got you to open the email, they probably will work on others.

Build Your List With Articles

In this email I am going to teach you how to build your list with articles as the basis for driving traffic. I will teach you the difference between list building and link building, writing articles that get people to click through, and getting them on your list.


The info marketing business has many methods of traffic generation. Most all of them will drive some traffic. You have to find a method that works for you. Using article marketing to build your list is a great way of doing just that. Now, it does require a lot of work, but so does any other method if you want to be profitable online.


List Building or Link Building


You can use article marketing in a couple of different ways. One of those ways is to write articles to drive traffic. You can drive that traffic directly to your offer, or you can drive that traffic to build your list. In writing for list building, you want to have original content on your 4-5 top article directories. Write 100 articles per month and watch your list build.


The other use for article marketing is for link building.  Now, this requires a different approach to article writing. For this method you need to write huge amounts of articles and submit them daily to hundreds of article directories. That may seem daunting, but there is a method that makes it doable. It is called software spinning, and there are programs that will do that for you. This method helps improve the page rank of your website.


Getting The Click Through


In list building article marketing, you must get the click through. The reader must click your link at the end of your article and go to your squeeze page to get on your list. Your article must be written with that goal in mind.


To achieve that goal, you need to do a couple things. Your article must provide a solution to the reader’s problem. Perhaps it is an answer to a question, or perhaps it is providing some details or a review of a specific product. You should provide good solid content for the solution. The other part of the equation is to leave them wanting more at the end of the article. Don’t promise three things and only give two, but let them know there is more to learn.


Get Them On Your List


After you provide them with a solution or an answer to their problem, they need a way to find out more from you. To do this they need to get on your list. If you have written a compelling article this won’t be too difficult. They will want to give their information to you because they trust you as a good source of information.


To get them on your list, you need to have a way for them to provide you with their information. The best way is to use a squeeze page or web form. Your autoresponder service will have this option. You can use just the web form and have the service host it, or you can build a more compelling website and host it yourself. This is generally the better way to do it. It shows that you are a professional at your craft.

In this blog post I am going to teach you about how to write articles that pull traffic to your website. I will tell you how to compel the reader to not only read your article but want to read more from you and click on to your website.


Article Marketing to pull traffic to your website is different from writing articles just to provide content on a topic. If you are writing an article or white paper on a topic, you want to give all the information you have on that topic in that article. When writing articles to pull traffic you want to provide good content but also leave the reader wanting more.


Keep Traffic Generation in Mind when Writing Your Articles

I feel it is necessary to keep your ultimate goal in mind when writing articles. No matter which type of article writing you are doing, either the white paper type or writing to drive traffic. When writing to generate traffic you want the reader to feel  1) you provided really good content that was helpful and 2) that they want to read more from you.

To do that you have to balance your content. You need give them really good helpful information that also leaves them hanging and feeling they need to know more from you.

If you are not effective at this they will read your article, like the information and just leave, not visiting your site. On the other hand if you don’t provide enough good information, they may not feel you have enough to offer and won’t click through to your website or squeeze page.


How to Make Them Want More

You need to know what to write about. Start with your niche or topic and jot down a list of 5-8 things you know about it. Then jot down 5-8 things you know about each item on that list. Now you have  25 –50 things you can write about. You can add as many topics and subtopics as you can think of. Potentially giving you over a hundred topics to write about.

Come up with a compelling title for your article. Keep it specific to what your article is about. Don’t try to trick them into reading your article. Use your list of keywords to decide on a title. Use at least one in the title. This not only helps them find your article, it tells them what the article is about. Keep it specific to your subtopic.

For instance, if your niche is deer hunting you might pick a subtopic such as food plots for deer hunting. A title might be Planting Nutrition Food Plots for Deer Hunting. That title pulls in the deer hunting folks that are interested in how to plant nutrition plots for deer. You have a better chance of finding readers and driving traffic to your website with these highly targeted keyword titles.

Now, your article should answer or address the topic in your title. If you don’t do this your reader may not think you are honest and will doubt your honesty when it comes time to actually purchase your product or join your list.

So there you have it, I have taught you some basics of how to do traffic pulling article writing. Use these tips the next time you write an article and you should start to pull in some good traffic to your site.

What is Article Marketing

The info marketing business has always been about providing content for your customers and subscribers. One of the best ways to do that is through article marketing. This method is sometimes referred to as bum marketing. Not really sure why, but that’s what some folks call it. Writing articles and publishing them on the internet is a great way to provide good content and drive traffic to your website.

Article marketing is basically just writing articles, publishing them on websites across the internet and then sit back and watch the traffic come in from them. The amount of traffic and sales of course will depend on how well you craft those articles and how well you compel folks to click on your link back to your website or offer.

These articles don’t have to be long, actually shorter ones in the 400-600 word length seem to do the best. Folks don’t like to read as much as you would think. These short, to the point articles get your point across and leave the reader wanting more.


Why Do Article Marketing

Article Marketing is a great way to get free traffic for your information marketing business. Writing articles is also a great way to get the word out about your business. What your business is about, what products you have for sell and how to contact your business to purchase your products.

The way you do that is by crafting an article that is easy to read and one that leaves the reader wanting more. Add an author box that tells about you and provides a link back to your offer or website so the reader can get more information from you. And possibly purchase some of your products there.

Article marketing for your info marketing business is also a good way of creating back links to your website. The more back links you have the better off you are, especially if they come from a highly relevant article. When your article gets published or copied to other blogs and ezines your link goes with it. So you not only get direct links and visits, you get indirect visits from all those other places that your article is published.


Basics of Article Writing

Writing articles doesn’t have to be all that hard. Don’t think about it so much, just do it. Sit down, decide on a topic, jot down 2-3 things about that topic and then just start writing. Make the article relevant to your website or offer.

Start with an introduction telling them what you are going to tell them. Next write a paragraph or two about each of the subtopics you chose. Each paragraph should be 2-3 sentences long. Then wrap it up by telling them what you just told them. It’s really not all that difficult if you just sit down and do it.

In this blog post I am going to teach you about how to build your first website for info marketing business even if you have never done it before. This blog post goes a little more into detail but still focuses on the basics of website creation.

Now We can Build Our Website

Lets just do a little review of the basic steps you need to have in place in order to build your first website for your info marketing business. So here are the basics that you will need to have in place before starting your design.

Web Hosting

Domain Name


Web Builder

A web host is simply a company like Host Gator  that stores all your website files and maintains them making sure that your website is up and running all the time.

A domain name is the url or name of your website. It is what goes between the www and the com. Go to one of the domain name registrars like Namecheap   or GoDaddy   and choose a name, purchase it and get it set up.

Your autoresponder is your email service provider such as Aweber . You write your emails, enter them into the forms there and the service will send them out for you.

A web builder like Nvu is simply a software package that you can use to easily and quickly build a website from scratch.

Ok, let’s get started.

All those pieces are in place. Your web builder is installed on your computer. So open it and let’s build your first website. It is going to be a basic squeeze page to help you build your list of subscribers for your info marketing business.

I like to use tables, they make a nice, neat looking website and you can center them or keep them off to the left side of the web page. You could also just start typing your headline and text without a table. It will be fine that way too.

Your headline text should be Large font and bolded and probably a nice contrasting color like Red or Blue.  Leave your page background white for this first website/squeeze page.

Now skip a line or two and add the features and benefits portion. You can add bullet points and bold text. Don’t get carried away, simple is best. Let your headline and ad text speak to the people, not the colors and graphics.

Then add your Call to Action box and you are done.

Wait you say, how do I add the call to action box?  You go into your autoresponder and create a web form. Then copy the code it creates and paste into your new webpage. I won’t go into how to set it up in this email, there are good videos on the Aweber site that do a great job of instructing you on that.

That is it, now take a look at your new webpage and make sure it looks correct to you. All the spelling is correct and things are lined up as you want them.  Save your work and you are done. It will save as an index.html file.  You can open that file in your browser to see what it looks like for real. Just another check.

Then you upload it to your web host, make sure it still looks the way you want it and you are done. Be sure to upload any image files you may have included otherwise the page won’t load right without them. You have just created your first website and published it online for the world to see.

In this blog post I am going to teach you where to find products that you can promote and sell in your info marketing business.

Products come in several different forms. You could promote a service type business such as consulting. Perhaps you have a concrete finishing business, you could have several products related to that. One could be your finishing service, another could be retailing your concrete finishing products. Another could be consulting with other concrete finishing providers or do-it-yourself homeowners. So there you have three great product areas to start with. You don’t even have to create them, they are already done for you. So you can hit the ground running with a niche like that.

What about Affiliate Products

Affiliate products come in many flavors as well. Most large companies these days will have an affiliate program that you can sign up for. There are the tangible products such as hunting supplies or golfing supplies and there are the digital type products such as ebooks and e-training. The marketing of either of those types of products is basically the same. You gather the information about the products, create a website with good content and photos (for the tangible products like hunting supplies) and then begin driving traffic to that website.

Where to Find Affiliate Products

There are a few ways to find affiliate products that you can promote and sell. One of the easiest ways is to join one of the many affiliate networks such as Clickbank, Commission Junction, Share-a-Sale, etc. Those sites provide all types of products to promote. Clickbank is primarily for digital products in just about any niche you can think of. The others also provide real products like hunting supplies, baseball gloves, ski equipment, etc. You simply sign up, get your affiliate links and then begin promoting them.

Another way I have found that works is to find a product that you like. Maybe you have purchased it or dream about it. Perhaps it is in your niche. What you do, is go to the products website and scroll down to the bottom and look for a link that says affiliate program or something similar to that. It may call it dealers or something else. Sometimes you can find the link buried on one of the sides. You just have to look around and do a little research. If you can’t find the link, go to the Contact page and call the company or send them an blog post asking about their affiliate program. Now, not all companies have affiliate programs, you just have to do a little searching to find them.

Promoting Your Own Stuff

One more really good way to find products to promote is to create them yourself. Perhaps you are an inventor and have designed a cool ATV handle that makes lifting snowblades super easy. Or your company sells super bright LED light bulbs. You could just promote those products.

Another really great way to find products is to create your own digital products. You can take several of your articles that are about the same topic and combine them into an ebook or record them as an audio mp3 or video. When you have enough articles and teachable material written, you can create a training program or coaching program. This doesn’t have to be in the info marketing or internet only niche. If you sell softball gloves, you could create training programs related to that. Parents of aspiring athletes are always looking for new ideas to help their kids get better at their sport.

So there you go. I have taught you several ways to find products to promote and sell. Now all you have to do is follow those techniques, find the products and get selling.

In this blog post I am going to talk about how you can easily find customers for your info marketing business.

There are a few main things that you must have to build a profitable, sustainable business. You need products, or at least a product. You need a method of promoting your product or services and you need some customers.

Customers for Free

Everywhere you look online you will see ads for free traffic. That is just what you are looking for, right?  Well let me know if you actually find it, please. I’m here to tell you there is no such thing as free traffic. There may be some sources that don’t cost up front or that make you profit and look free from that stand point. Even the no money sources actually take time, sometimes a lot of it to produce any results and to me time is money.

So let’s get started on some low cost or time only methods for those of you with small budgets. One of the lowest cost methods is going to be using Safelists or Traffic Exchanges. With these you join a site for free, then send emails to other members. They of course are sending emails to you. Some of these sites allow you to send out to 10000 members every few days.

Traffic exchanges are very similar. This method still requires you to join for free. Of course you will be presented with upgrade options that sometimes are worth taking advantage of. Read through the offers and if you can afford it, take it. The same goes for the Safelist upgrade offers. Now, with traffic exchanges instead of emailing your offer, you are surfing other members websites. They surf yours and that is how to get folks to purchase your product or sign up for your list.

There are hundreds of both of these types of sites out there. I have had success with some of the safelists and limited success with traffic exchanges. It takes a lot of your time and you have to be very diligent but you can have success with these free traffic sources.


One of the best ways to get free traffic is by using the search engines themselves. To do this you rely on SEO or search engine optimization of your website.  When your site becomes listed and indexed by the search engines it will put you at the top of the page where searchers see it and click on your link. Simple process, eh.

Simple but not easy. SEO simply means optimizing your site for a few keywords, usually 2-3 a most for each page. Your site must also provide good content and it must be designed in a way that both humans and computers – the search bots are happy reading it. Now this requires practice and some effort on your part, but it doesn’t have to cost any actual out of pocket money which makes it another free traffic source.

There are many ways to go about finding customers for your business. There are so many in fact that I can’t even remember them all. There are new methods presented all the time. In subsequent emails I will teach on some more methods so keep watching for updates to this blog.
